Anneleen De Bonte

Anneleen is a physician by training who has evolved into a systemic thinker and changemaker, working at the intersection of health, urban development and fair finance. With a strong focus on impact investing, she explores how capital can be mobilized to create resilient communities and healthy people in healthy cities.

Her journey into finance began with field research into her own pension fund for healthcare professionals, which revealed its minimal investments in a sustainable and healthy future. This led her to advocate for impact investing as an alternative.

Today, she combines active entrepreneurship in innovative projects with consultancy and a few board positions, all with a place-based focus and fair financing models as a common ground. Anneleen dedicates much of her time to Citadel Diest, an urban regeneration project transforming a historic site into a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community. Citadel Diest blends heritage preservation, social innovation, and circular development, offering a blueprint for rethinking urban spaces. The project is unique due to the involvement of both a strong, diverse local grassroots network and a professional team specializing in urban development with a positive societal impact. She is responsible for organizing the participatory financing of the project and for a part of the day to day coordination.

Additionally she works on projects linking healthcare innovation and real estate, including an investment fund for affordable housing that promotes non-speculative models for inclusive housing and resilient neighbourhoods. As a board member of a cooperative urban development fund she directs citizen capital towards redeveloping underutilized spaces.

Anneleen is passionate about creating financial models that align with societal wellbeing, ensuring that capital flows towards long-term sustainable solutions rather than short-term returns.
